Welcome to VictoryGirls.org Effie! Thank you for being our newest Victory Girl. Could you give us a brief introduction of yourself and what your life in sex work looked like before the coronavirus pandemic?
I am Effie Diaz and before the lockdown was put in place, I could be found traveling around the UK visiting clients, attending events, filming movies or hidden in a dungeon somewhere. When not working, I love to write, do yoga and socialize with friends!
How has the pandemic effected your day to day life, in and out of sex work?
The Pandemic has affected me most on a personal level. I see my career as being on pause right now, which means I have had to alter my normal process of getting stuff done! Every day that I can’t spend time with people I love is difficult; everything else is just collateral damage. It would be ungrateful to call being “stuck at home” a disadvantage in current circumstances – lucky us, bored and safe.
With millions of sex workers in quarantine or isolation, what draws you to the idea of bringing them all together to support all of our overworked health care workers and make them feel appreciated?
The minute the UK went into Lockdown, we went from living to surviving. (Hence the lack of loo roll.) I just want to do my part. This is what I’m good at and the only bit of normality for me in this chaos, so I am ready to contribute, in whatever way I can!
Do you have any specific anecdote or story about a health care worker during this crisis? Or, do you have anyone in the healthcare community that has meant a great deal to you?
I have close family members who have been on the front line throughout this crisis and I could not be more proud of them!
What would you like to say to the brave health care heroes, keeping us safe, on behalf of yourself and the sex work community?
On behalf of myself and the sex work community, I’d like to say an overwhelmingly emotional thank you to each and every healthcare worker reading this, you are heroes and the history books will portray you as such. We salute you in your effort to fight this invisible battle and thank you sincerely for your service.
